TITLE: Terminology management from a practitioner’s perspective:Training and educating stakeholders on both sides of the terminology services chain

ABSTRACT:

The paper briefly defines terminology and the main principles underlying terminology management processes. It also highlights their significance for organizations when it comes to establishing a corporate language and ensuring unequivocal communication between themselves and their stakeholders, as well as effectively underpinning information management processes. Furthermore, the paper summarizes the state of affairs of professionals responsible for managing information, localisation, documentation and translation processes in respect of their level of knowledge of terminology. Finally, the paper briefly presents the responses of TermNet, International Network for Terminology, to this state of affairs by means of TermNet’s current research projects and training initiatives.
