ABSTRACT:

The exploitation of biological metaphors for problem solving heuristics has a rich history. Genetic Algorithms and Genetic Programming are two highly successful examples. The research community has recently begun to explore social insect systems as inspiration for distributed problem solving also known as Swarm Intelligence. This talk will describe basic swarm algorithms and their use in solving NP hard problems.
